Speaker: Mr. Ali Akbar Mousavi Khoeini, Former member of Iran Parliament, Internet Freedom advocate, and senior adviser at George Mason University
Summary: In the era of internet technology (IT), social networks play a major role in introducing democracy in a country like Iran. The recent activities in Iran has shown that people utilized social media to stand against corruption and ask for their basic economical and political rights in spite of the proxy regulations forced by authorities. On the other side people's life is often dependent on social media as they are not being used merely as a networking but for business development across the country. We have seen how blocking a messaging app, e.g. Telegram, can disrupt the regular life of people.
Although the Iranians outside of the country do not face such limitations toward the access to technology, it is shown that a high level of integrity is needed. It’s crucial to protect the social networks and improve the quality of free internet with the aim of supporting people.
In this talk Mr. Mousavi will discuss the current situation of IT management in Iran, as well as the impact and responsibilities of the Iranian professionals living outside of the country.
