AVA Ensemble at UCSD presents: Shahin Najafi - A Review of Iran's Protest Music.
Shahin Najafi has become one of the foremost contemporary Iranian musicians around the globe. His music contains a wide spectrum of lyrics pertaining to political and social issues. This protest music, so to speak, has made him a highly controversial figure, becoming one of the few individuals in history to be issued a fatwa by Iranian clerics. In Germany, he carries on his music of protest from where he left off in Iran, using pen and music as a reflection of his political and social ideas. And for the very first time to come to the United States, he will share an evening with you, to review Iran's protest music, at the University of California, San Diego.
