Where is Iran Heading?

Mr. Ghafour Mirzaie

When the Iranian revolution took place in 1979, the people were promised “independence,” “freedom,” and “rule of law”.  That is why 90% of Iranians supported it.  Now, has it fulfilled these promises?  If the answer is yes, then why is the government approval rating at only 15%?

This presentation will analyze Iran’s upcoming presidential election and the effect of the peoples’ participation.  Is the legitimacy of the government measured by the voter turnout?  “Democracy” and “independence” have been interpreted as the rule of people by the people.  How true has this been in Iran’s case?

Mr. Ghafour Mirzaii immigrated to the United States in 1978.  He was fervently interested in Iran’s history and culture from childhood and has studied and researched extensively in this area. He will explain the elements of the “hard shell of dictatorships”.  Mr. Mirzaii has published many articles in Iranian magazines such as “Melate’ Bidare’ Ma,” “Rah Avard,” “Payame’ Ashena,” “Negin,” and has been featured on the “Irane’ Emrooz” website.  His recent publications are “Farda Dar Esarate’ Dirooz” and “Haftad Ketab Dar Yek Ketab”.
