PROGRAM:

Speaker: Dr. Masood A. Khatamee

Topic: Human Reproduction, New Frontiers
Wednesday June 28, 2006

The field of reproduction started from the birth of the first so called test tube baby, Louise Brown in England, almost 3 decades ago. Since the birth of Louise Brown, the field of human reproduction has evolved in a biblical proportion so much that our concept of conception as defined by need for both male and female has changed.  Since its conception, the field of reproduction medicine has been inundated with many new technologies and ethical considerations.

With the new technological advancements in the field of in-vitro-fertilization, it has become more possible for parents to select the desired gender or physical characteristic and more importantly to eliminate undesirable outcomes.  Ethical dilemma presented by this technology continually challenges our scholars in the fields of medicine, philosophy, sociology, theology, and law.

It is incumbent on all of us to be more informed of this field since the final decision regarding the utilization and manner of use will be up to us.  Along with input from our scholars, policy makers and our representatives in Washington will be looking at us for directions.  On June 28th, 2006 Dr. Khatamee will  presenting this topic at AIAP.

Dr. Khatamee was born in Mashad, Iran in 1936, and graduate from Shiraz University School of Medicine 1961. Since then, he has received seven fellowships including one by WHO in Oxford University in England. He has held more than thirty teaching assignments and appointments, more than ninety presentations in the United States, France, Germany, England, Hungary, Egypt, Russia, Malaysia, Columbia and Iran. He has also published more than thirty academic papers and thirty-four articles in the American and Iranian press. He has written one book in Iran and has forwarded an infertility book in the United States. He has also been on the Editorial board of four academic publications in the United States and has been given more than thirty-five television interviews. He has been featured by ABC, CBS, BBC, CNN, German Television, Infertility Journal, Voice of America, and Canadian Broadcasting TV. He has also been interviewed by Barbra Walters for his infertility research.
